Assistance for Chili Cultivation Held at LRT Jakarta Depot

The Jakarta Maritime, Agricultural and Food Security Agency (KPKP), inspected the chili cultivation location (Green House) at the Jakarta LRT Depot, Pegangsaan Dua, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta. It was conducted to monitor progress and assist LRT Jakarta employees in cultivating chilies.

“This is a follow-up to the activities we held before. We support its seedlings and assistance while the LRT provides the facilities," Jakarta KPKP Agency's Agriculture Section Head, Mujati expressed, Friday (2/2).

He explained problems with pests and diseases found during chili cultivation. Therefore, the KPKP Agency invited M Syukur, Professor of the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, Faperta, Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) to directly check the problems and treatments that would be conducted to ensure that the chili plants planted could grow well and produce as expected.

"Earlier, after checking, the plants were attacked by many pests. The control will be conducted by the Center for Seed Development and Plant Protection which will also provide pesticides according to Mr. Syukur's directions," he explained.

He added the KPKP Agency would also support the provision of fertilizer and lime to keep plants growing well.

"We'll give lime because of the low Ph, so we have to increase it to get neutral," he added.

Aside that, his agency suggested that the greenhouse be installed with an irrigation system for watering and fertilizing with a drip irrigation system, thereby saving labor.

"From the start, assistance has been provided once a week and has checked to anticipate pest attacks to get good quality chili plants," he continued.

PT LRT Jakarta's Finance and Business Support Director, Sahurdi appreciated the full support of the KPKP Agency in the form of assistance and regular monitoring of chili cultivation at the LRT Green House.

According to him, chilies are vegetables that are needed by many people but the price often fluctuates. Chili cultivation is part of the Jakarta Planting Movement in order to achieve food security and support inflation control.

"This is outstanding the KPKP supports its seedlings. There are even KPKP officers who come here regularly, as we also need guidance and assistance from experts starting from exterminating pests and the need for seeds and fertilizer, all from KPKP. We provide suggestions and input for treatment, such as watering and planting methods that need improvement for better results," he stated.
